Parrot Food

Parrot Food

When we say "parrot food" it immediately conjures up a mixture of seeds, nuts and dried fruit. How wrong can you be !!
Seed diets come in a variety of mixtures and usually contain a lot of peanuts and dark sunflower seeds........both of these are very fattening and if given at all should be in small quantities.   If choosing one of these mixes try and get one with the white sunflowers which are not quite as fattening (difference between fried chips and oven chips !!)
The seed recommended by Avian Vets is Tidymix which contains all hulled seeds so the whole mix can be eaten.   It is produced to be fit for human consuption which endorses its quality.  The mix of seeds, nuts etc is in the correct ratio for your bird.
If your bird remains on a seed diet a vitamin supplement should always be given.
Kaytee, Pretty Bird and Harrisons are an extruded pellet food which contain every vitamin and mineral needed for your bird.   Our own birds eat Kaytee and the bright colours and fabulous fruity smell is lovely.  The majority of hand reared birds are reared with Kaytee Hand Rearing Formula so it is easy for hand reared birds to be then introduced to the Kaytee pellets.
